I copied them." Especially for the Amiga, which was a relatively new computer at the time. I had my C64, and then I bought my Amiga, Commodore Amiga. "When I was younger, significantly - more than 20 years ago - I was in secondary school ," Marchewka says. Into that vast chasm of history, in the early 1990s, charged eventual Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka. It's a span of time, and a cultural history, that makes the advent of things like video games read like a pimple on the face of time. It is, all of it, a reminder that for all the wonders of the modern world, people have been living, working, fighting and dying here for thousands of years. Just down the cobblestone street, ancient buildings housing offices and restaurants jostle for space with a modern mall, complete with a KFC and a McDonald's. A stroll through the city's old town, situated on an island in the Odra River, is like walking backward in time, with the occasional stark reminder of the modern world.Īcross the street from the Radisson hotel, in a parking lot, stands a monument built to contain the Racławice Panorama, a gigantic, centuries-old circular painting depicting the 18th-century uprising against Russia. The city itself, nestled in Poland's southwest corner between Germany and the Czech Republic, is ancient, saved from the devastation of World War II by remoteness and luck. Dead Island was Techland's first international hit, and it was a whopper of one, pushing over 5 million units. Just as anyone who's been in love remembers their first love, anyone who makes video games remembers their first international hit. ![]() Heroes, zombies, weapons, plastered over every vertical surface, larger than life. Walk inside and, just past a small and somewhat messy lobby, you'll see the wall art - all Dead Island. ![]() This is the place where Dead Island - the blockbuster tropical island-set, melee-happy, weapon-crafting zombie apocalypse game - was made, and the place that, in many ways, was made by Dead Island. You hesitate to boil down a company that's been selling games for over 15 years to just one title, but they'll acknowledge it themselves. And then there's the place with the new cars and motorcycles. There are some houses here and there - small, cottage-like affairs, with well-kept yards. There's some sort of office complex to one side, across a barren field. Here, in this semi-industrial part of the Polish city of Wroclaw (pronounced Vrotslav, with a rolled R), the building could not be more obtrusive. A striking black and red building with a glass front, like a race car. You turn a corner and there it is: Techland.

Over the past five years alone, the industry has endured no less than 140 distinct disputes pitting programmers or station groups against their primary distributors. This agreement marks DIRECTV’s latest successful resolution of a carriage dispute, an unfortunate but increasingly frequent occurrence involving nearly every pay TV and streaming provider attempting to keep rising consumer costs in check. Studies have shown that other ‘varieties’ of loosestrife sold as ornamentals are generally not sterile as advertised. salicaria, and may be illegal for sale in your area. In addition to spread by seeds, purple loosestrife also spreads vegetatively. Seeds are dispersed by floating on streams, by birds, wildlife and livestock, or in the mud of vehicle tires or boots. Purple loosestrife spreads primarily by seeds. In flooded areas, the plant forms dense, fibrous rootmats. Although purple loosestrife generally prefers moist soils, mature purple loosestrife plants can tolerate a wide range of water levels, pH and climatic conditions, soil, and vegetation types. Plants resprout each spring from their large rootstocks (Figure 5).Īny sunny or partially shaded wetland is susceptible to purple loosestrife invasion. After the first extreme frosts in fall, all above-ground plant parts will die back. The mature size of the plant will depend, in part, on growing conditions, soil type, water level, the genetic potential of the plant, and plant density. Even young plants develop a large taproot, and have an extensive rootstock by the end of the first growing season. Seedlings lodge into moist soil and quickly grow to over 3 feet (1 m) tall in their first growing season, and many even flower (Figure 4). Seeds germinate in late spring and early summer in open, sunny places when soil temperatures reach 68☏ (20☌). Seed viability is greater than 90 percent and seeds can remain viable in the soil for many years. When purple loosestrife densities are high, billions of seeds are produced per acre. Purple loosestrife is a prolific seed producer a single mature plant can produce several million seeds. Water, wind, wildlife, and humans easily spread the lightweight seeds that are shed throughout the winter. The capsules open to release more than a hundred tiny, light brown seeds about the size of poppy seeds (Figure 3c). Seeds are produced in rounded capsules about 0.24 inches (6 mm) in length. Flowering occurs from mid-June to September, depending on location. Each flower measures about 0.6-0.8 inches (15-20 mm) across, has five to seven petals, and a small, yellow center. The inflorescence of purple loosestrife is a spike of numerous, showy, reddish-purple or magenta flowers set in clusters (Figure 3b). Dead stems persist through the winter and often decay slowly over several years, and new shoots are produced each spring from buds on the persistent, woody rootstock. Mature plants have up to 30 flowering stems, which can reach a height of 5-9 feet (1.5 to 3 m). Stems have short, slender branches and evenly spaced nodes. They are five- or six-sided (you can feel the edges of the stem when you roll it between your fingers), woody, and can be either smooth or covered with downy hairs. One of the more recognizable features of purple loosestrife is its square-shaped stems. ![]() The stalkless leaves are arranged opposite or alternate along the stem, and lower leaves often form a whorl around the stem. I tried not to be biased to Deeeep, which I play like 5 times is an immersive multiplayer. Literally nothing can kill you, and there's no downsides, unlike in Mope and Deeeep, where in mope you lose water extremely fast and have to find some before you land, and in deeeep all flying animals are weak, and easy prey to anything that can grab. I know, it doesn't last very long, but it's still way too fast. Combine this with the fact that creatures larger than you biting you is a 1 hit KO, makes them OP. ![]() In mope.io and deeeep.io, if an animal hides underground you can see it coming or run away after it bites you, respectively. The larger animals with the Dig ability are SUPER overpowered. Wait for them to sprint after you, then sprint at the last second and you will always run for longer. If you get the sprint ability, you can easily outrun anything. I haven't played this much so some of the facts may be a bit inaccurate, but I think I did a good job on this. If you're unlucky enough to land on a populated island, whether you're a tier one or tier 10, you're going to be slaughtered.Īnd finally, creatur.io, the relatively new. The islands are completely coated in seagulls which attack everything. Gsquid's only counter is cachalot, which is uncommon, so they take over the deep waters and kill everything in sight. If you're a tier 10, especially orca, there's a 'danger zone.' You'll see barely any orcas in the border between the deep and normal ocean, because there's always a giant squid lurking and ready to kill. For example, Manatee, which eats crocs for breakfast even though croc is a higher tier, is slow as heck and can't boost. There's about a million different places to hide, and if you can't find one of them just boost away if you're in deep waters, or get to the surface and boost into the sky if you're in the arctic, swamp or normal water. However, that doesn't mean it has nothing bad about it, so here we go! ![]() Okay, next up is Deeeep.io, I play this one a lot more often and (no offence to mope) like it more. It would probably get trampled, but it still has that ability. A mouse is able to bite an elephant in real life for example. You should be able to attack other animals no matter what their tier. You have to wander the entire map if you lose your teammate. Chat is weird, (imo deeeep's chat is better) because you can't speak to people from way across the map like deeeep.io. Eagles are literally everywhere and super annoying Gorilla is a good example of that, you can tease strong animals by throwing bananas in their face, and also give your team food by throwing bananas on the ground. The bigger tier you are the easier it is to live. Croc can even do it with animals stronger than it. rex are good at fishing for water prey and dragging it on land. Easy to chase prey, also croc, eagle and T.
